Cool Connections
Cool Connections is a ten-session early intervention program aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 12. The program is based on a cognitive behavioral approach, a scientific, evidence-based approach to problem solving, which aims to encourage self-esteem, social skills, and well-being, and prevent anxiety and depression in children.
Specific goals of the program include the following:
The importance of early intervention programs is supported by research that suggests children who suffer from high anxiety are more likely to become anxious adults. Early anxiety and self-esteem building intervention programs, such as the Cool Connections program, have been shown to reduce the number of children and young people developing emotional disorders.
Groups are typically divided by age: 7-9 year olds and 10-12 year olds and are limited to six children. Adolescent groups may become available in the future. Children will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Each session will run 90 minutes and will include a mixture of fun games, educational material, therapeutic content and strategies aimed at accomplishing the aforementioned goals. Homework activities are assigned to increase the generalization of skills beyond the group session. The group operates as a closed group, meaning new members can join every ten weeks. Participants are encouraged to attend all ten weeks, as each session builds upon the previous session.
Because Dr. Katzinger is a licensed clinical psychologist, certain insurance companies may cover these services. Please contact me at (404) 909-9500 for further inquiry or to enroll your child. New groups will be starting soon.
